With the three-day weekend coming up (yay, presidents!)-and perhaps some snow-the service advisory from Metrorail is a bit more promising than it has been in recent weeks. Only two of the system’s five lines will be undergoing track work this weekend, and only on suburban stretches.
Orange Line trains will run in two segments beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, between Vienna and Virginia Square and between Rosslyn and New Carrollton, while the Clarendon station undergoes a switch replacement as prescribed by the National Transportation Safety Board. Shuttle buses will run between Rosslyn and Virginia Square, adding about 20 to 30 minutes to traveling times.
The Red Line will also be fragmented this weekend as shuttle buses replace trains between White Flint and Medical Center as the corridor undergoes NTSB-recommended track circuit module replacement, rail fastener renewal, track maintenance and fiber optic cable work to improve cell phone coverage. Red Line trains will run between Shady Grove and White Flint, and between Medical Center and Glenmont at the normal weekend pace.
The Blue, Green and Yellow lines are unaffected this weekend.
