GRANDVIEW, W.Va. — A popular trail in the New River Gorge National River will remain closed for another season because of safety concerns.
Robin Snyder, with the National Park Service, told The Register-Herald that reopening the Grandview Tunnel Trail is one of the agency’s top priorities.
According to the park’s website, the half-mile trail is the shortest one in the park. It passes through a cavelike rock tunnel and has several sections of stairs.
The Park Service closed the trail in spring 2011 after an engineer’s basic structural assessment determined that the structure could become unsound.
