Crew teams have been cleaning up neighborhoods and fixing downed power lines this weekend after powerful storms blasted through the D.C.-area on Friday night. “The District Department of Transportation says crews were working Saturday morning to remove downed trees, branches and debris. The agency says that it had already received more than 100 tree-related service requests.” [AP]

D.C. public school students said that their teachers gave them the right answers to last year’s standardized tests. “The D.C. Office of the State Superintendent of Education, which oversees both the traditional school system and the city’s public charter schools, hired Alvarez & Marsal to analyze test results for cheating and interview more than 300 students, teachers and administrators.” [The Examiner]

Hula dancers will be part of this year’s Smithsonian Folklife Festival. “[The] 25-member troupe, who range in age from 9 to 62, arrive Sunday and perform at the Library of Congress before beginning their twice-daily dances for the festival.” [The Post]

The D.C.-area ranks sixth in having the most naturalized citizens in 2011, according to a newly released study. “According to the statistics, 51 percent of all new citizens (aged 18 years or older) naturalized in 2011 live in these ten metros.” [Atlantic Cities]

The D.C. area is filled with many people juggling full-time jobs and part-time passions. Metro Connection’s recent “moonlighting” program features some of these individuals. “We’ll meet a veteran Capitol Hill aide who moonlights behind the hostess stand at her new Georgetown restaurant. We’ll hang out with some parents who really just wanna rock and roll all night, and we’ll chat with people who’ve actually made their hobbies and side jobs their primary pursuits.” [WAMU]
