The Bud Light Lime Surf Series promises to bring some big names in pro surfing to the beaches of Jennette’s Pier over Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 to Sept. 2.
The Labor Day Cup event will be the second event of the 2012 season and the first time the surf series has visited the east coast. The Bud Light Lime Surf Series features a diverse group of contest pros, legends, local pros as well as photo and video stars who vie for more than $125,000 prizes.
North Carolina native and pro surfer Benny Bourgeios said he’s stoked about the contest.
“I never saw pro contests like this on the east coast (when growing up) even though there is such a great surf culture there,” he said. “The Bud Light Lime Surf Series brings together world champs, icons, and guys on the cutting edge in one of the coolest contest settings I’ve ever been a part of.”
Inspired by the Bud Tour of the 1990s, the Bud Light Lime Surf Series offers an unorthodox format and casual atmosphere developed by Contest Director Benji Weatherley.
Each participant surfs at least twice before cuts are made. Additionally, each surfer’s top-two wave scores are counted regardless of which heat they competed in during the opening round, allowing them to focus on bettering their own scores as opposed to competing directly against one another.
The Bud Light Lime Surf Series highlight videos are featured on Surfline.com following the event. In addition to the Bud Light Lime Surf Series, Anheuser-Busch’s involvement in surfing includes the Bud Light Lime Surf Team – Fred Patacchia, Jr., Serena Brooke, Sean Moody and Weatherley – and annual surf videos, related parties, promotions and activities supporting the team.
