In seven years with the team, Portis rushed for 6,824 yards and 46 touchdowns. In 2010, though, he was placed on injured reserve, effectively ending his career with the team. He was never picked up by another team.
As good a player as he was, Portis was just as well known for making up characters with names like Southeast Jerome, Coach Janky Spanky and Sheriff Gonna Getcha and speaking to the press in full costume. He was also one of the many Redskins players to have appeared in those infamous Eastern Motors ads.
In 2010, though, Portis made something of a stink when he seemed to justify the harassment of a female journalist by players on the New York Jets.
He will announce his retirement on Thursday at FedEx Field. The question must be asked, though-will he appear in character?
